The perfect little jewel for a small garden or pot. Full size ruby red flowers on a dwarf, polite grower. 30cm. Sun or ½ Shade. Just as tough and hardy as its’ full size cousins. Great cut flower. Frost hardy. Hardy, easy care plant.
I choose to ignore Sarah Raven (an excellent English gardener, TV personality and author) who says of dwarf Alstroemeria “the proportion of flower to stem is all wrong and they look rather like a chubby little pony covered in rosettes”. To me, the flower of ‘First Love’ is slender & fine enough to not be a “chubby pony”. The very popular modern dwarf Alstroemerias have been bred from their charmingly tiny wild cousins from Patagonia. Patagonia is one of the most stirring and exciting places left on earth for both nature lovers and botanists alike.
